Sixteen-year-old Lily Wood from the United Reformed Church (URC) South Western Synod has been honored as May’s recipient of the Lundie Memorial Award.
Nominated by Amy Langford-Tizzard, the children, youth, and families leader at Westfield and Canninton URCs (known as Westcan), Lily is recognised for her exemplary dedication and leadership. Amy describes Lily as “a great role model to younger children” who dedicates her time to volunteering at various events where she is admired by the younger attendees.
Lily has been actively involved with the senior section of the Westfield Show Choir for the past decade. She participates in all the shows, supports fundraising events and volunteers at the church’s summer holiday club, ensuring new members feel welcomed and supported. Additionally, Lily plays a key role in the church’s annual Christingle service, a lively and engaging event for the community, organised with the show choir’s involvement.
Upon receiving the award, Lily expressed her excitement, stating: “I am thrilled to win this award! I have absolutely loved my whole time and experiences that I have been lucky enough to have over the past 10 years while being in the Westcan choir.”
The Lundie Memorial Award comes with a £100 prize. Lily plans to use the money to enhance the experiences of younger children in the choirt just as hers has been over the years.
