Good Friday: The saddest day

Good Friday is the saddest day of the Church’s year when we remember the execution of Jesus after a rushed, illegal, night-time trial.

We stand at the Cross bewildered at it all, trying to find meaning but appalled at the injustice and hatred of it all.

The United Reformed Church’s Minister for Digital Worship, the Revd Andy Braunston, offers this prayer for today:

Almighty and Eternal God,
we pray today for those in agony,
mothers watching their children die,
the earth itself pillaged and polluted yearning to be clean,
those who die this day and those who mourn them,
those who languish in prison this day
and those who work to rehabilitate them,
and those on our hearts this day.

Amen.
