Neil Thorogood, Moderator of the United Reformed Church’s General Assembly has very personal reasons to mourn the loss of wildlife and habitat in the recent UK wildfires.
In the second of his “Moderator’s Blogs”, Neil describes the carnage wrought by wildfires across over 350 acres of Dunwich Heath on the coast of Suffolk. He says the destruction has also affected his own family.
In a powerful reflection that is one of a series of blogs Neil will publish throughout his year as Moderator, he asks the same question cried by the psalmist: “Creator, are you also destroyer?” And he prays: “Do not close your eyes and ears, Lord.”
