Joint venture sees launch of Newbigin Pioneering Hub

A new venture between the United Reformed Church (URC), the Congregational Federation, Church Mission Society, and the Seedbeds organisation has led to the creation of the Newbigin Pioneering Hub.

The hub is named in honour of the inspirational URC minister and mission theologian, Lesslie Newbigin and aims to offer a space for Pioneers to connect and learn.

This new venture is open to all and is part of celebrating the past 50 years of the URC by investing our future in local communities. It will offer:

  • spare-time training in pioneer ministry for those starting out
  • a community for pioneers within the URC, Congregational Federation and beyond
  • all led by people with deep lived experience of the ups and downs of starting new things in a wide variety of settings

A celebration of the new hub will also be held alongside the Newbigin Public Lecture at 1pm on 2 July, at the Lodge Road Community Church, Winson Green, Birmingham.

The aim of the lecture is to stimulate Christians into more thoughtful and deeper engagement in the places they live and serve. The lecture is delivered by a high-profile Christian leader who embodies a contemporary spirit of Mr Newbigin.

This year’s lecture will be given by Dr Cathy Ross, a missiologist and author who leads Pioneer Mission Leadership Training at Church Mission Society. This event also takes place at Lodge Road Community Church in Birmingham.

More information about the hub can be found here. Alternatively, please contact Linda Rayner, URC Coordinator for Fresh Expressions by email or by calling 07944 806 077.
