A round-up of Christmas news featuring local congregations from around the United Reformed Church (URC) across Advent:
Thanks to church members, volunteers and stall holders, Foleshill Road URC’s Christmas fayre in Coventry raised a staggering £3,437. Members also gathered for the church’s annual “wrap & pack” night where 20 hampers were filled with Christmas goodies and given to two local schools which will hand them out to families who need them most.
With wonderful stalls, a drama and musical performances, there was much for people to enjoy.
Otley Bridge Church’s Explorers cooked and served the Supper Club’s Christmas meal this year and received rave reviews for their five-star service!
A prawn cocktail stater followed by a traditional Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings, was on the menu followed by Christmas pudding and brandy sauce.
Zion United in Frampton Cotterell enjoyed a festive food hub Christmas gathering.
Children and young people also helped decorate the church’s windows and dressed up as nativity characters and enjoyed getting stuck into lots of Christmas fun crafts.
This year, The Dales URC in Nottingham have sent 55 shoeboxes filled with goodies to Teams4U shoebox appeal.
The charity, which works within international relief and development will send to shoeboxes to vulnerable children, families, schools, nurseries, hospitals and orphanages in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia and Romania.
New Chapel URC in Horwich enjoyed creating candle light jars and practising for its Nativity. Special thanks were also given to all the young people who took part.
Some of St Mark’s Amble’s knitted angels, wonderfully and lovingly created by members Eleanor, Marjorie and Agnes, these and several more have winged their way over to the Palliative Care Ward at Wansbeck Hospital in memory Jessica, a dear friend of the church.
Emmanuel URC’s lunch club, in Swindon, enjoyed a Christmas meal featuring delicious food, lots of conversation and laughter, and a visit from Santa.
A huge well done to the young people of Woking URC who wrote their own Nativity play and led a service.
