The United Reformed Church (URC) National Synod of Scotland has passed a resolution supporting the Just Peace Coalition and welcoming the Scottish launch of its Time to Act campaign.
The coalition, which the URC joined the coalition in June 2026, seeks to highlight the voices of Palestinian Christians and encourage people to listen, pray and act, informed by their lived experience.
The URC General Assembly has passed several resolutions in recent years calling for lasting peace in the Holy Land and safety and security for Israelis and Palestinians.
In its latest resolution, the National Synod of Scotland affirmed its support for the coalition and welcomed future opportunities to work with Scottish coalition partners. It also endorsed General Assembly Resolution 8 (2026), which commends the prayerful study of the Kairos II document across the URC.
The resolution tasks the Synod Mission Committee with keeping under review ways in which the Synod can express deep solidarity with partners in the region.
The Revd Lindsey Sanderson, Moderator of the National Synod of Scotland, said “As Christians, we cannot be indifferent to the suffering of people living with conflict, occupation and injustice. We have a responsibility to listen to those whose lives are directly affected, including our Palestinian Christian partners, and to take their experiences seriously.
“Supporting the Just Peace Coalition and encouraging engagement with the Kairos II document are ways of turning our commitment to peace and justice into action. We want to deepen our understanding, strengthen our relationships with partners in the region and explore what meaningful solidarity looks like in practice. Peace is not simply the absence of conflict; it requires justice, dignity and a willingness to stand alongside those who are suffering.”
The synod aims to continue promoting opportunities to hear from its partners, as it did with the visit by Daoud Nasser from the Tent of Nations Farm near Bethlehem, and it is working on hosting an online meeting to introduce and explore the Kairos II document.
