Shining star gains September’s Lundie Memorial Award

At just 16 years old, Charlotte Samson from Mersey Synod has already made a significant impact in her community, earning the prestigious Lundie Memorial Award for September.

Nominated by Sheila Cook, the church secretary at Vicar’s Cross URC, Charlotte is described as “a competent and confident member who, always with a smile, willingly helps and leads services in the church”.

Since moving to the UK two years ago, Charlotte has thrown herself into the Wednesday club at the church, where she helps to cultivate a vibrant atmosphere cantered around Bible themes. The club not only fosters spiritual growth through engaging activities but also reinforces important traditions, like the Lord’s Prayer—something the children eagerly remind their leaders not to overlook!

Charlotte’s passion shines through as she organises games and encourages her peers to connect with each other and the material. While the club meets weekly, their community spirit extends beyond Wednesdays, featuring special services at Christmas and Harvest, and even hosting an end-of-year BBQ that brings families together.

When Charlotte learned she was the Lundie award recipient, her humble reaction was heartwarming: “I didn’t expect to win! I just enjoy helping out with the kids and seeing them happy. I would encourage any young person thinking about getting involved in their church to just do what you can—it’s worth it.”

As part of the Lundie Award, Charlotte received £100 which she plans to use to enhance the Wednesday club experience further. Her thoughtful approach shows her commitment to creating lasting memories for younger children she helps out with.
