Pandemic charity stall raises thousands for good causes

Thirty-five charities are to benefit from the thousands of pounds raised by Fenstanton United Reformed Church member, Jean Ding.

During the pandemic and due to lockdown restrictions, Jean was forced to move her stall from the church to outside her home, in Cambridgeshire.

She sold books, jigsaws, seasonal plants, and other items donated by members of her community and raised a total of £6,600 in the process.

Now the lockdown restrictions have eased, Jean has closed the stall outside her home and returned to her fundraising activities at her church.

“I am so pleased with the result,” Jean said. “I hadn’t expected it to go on so long, but the villagers seemed to get behind me and supplied me with goodies. We have two new estates and I met and made friends with lots of nice people.”

Although Jean closed the stall, she has not stopped her charitable activities.

“I run a knitters and natters group at church every other Tuesday, the in between Tuesday is a coffee morning. We knit for charities and have sent off 1,019 Innocent Smoothie hats to Age UK, and given 65 items to Arthur Rank Hospice to sell on their stall in the Ely Apple festival.”
