The United Reformed Church (URC) Children’s and Youth Work team has teamed up with Commitment for Life to publish a new resource to help children and young people engage with Nicaragua.
‘Go with Greta to Nicaragua’ comprises six sessions aimed at five to 11-year-olds while ‘#connect2 Nicaragua’ is aimed at 11 to 14-year-olds.
The resources are free and ideal for holiday club gatherings, church events taking place over one or two days, face-to-face gatherings, or online group activities.
Children and young people will learn about the country, life there, environmental issues, and the gifts Nicaragua shares with the world. They’ll also be able to pray for our brothers and sisters there and explore how our lives are connected through fun activities.
Both sections include a concluding inter-generational celebration.

The Revd Dr Kevin Snyman, Programme Officer for Commitment for Life, the URC’s world development programme working in partnership with Christian Aid and Global Justice Now, said: “This is a superb resource. We are confident that Greta Goes to Nicaragua will inspire all of us to take seriously our shared vocation for global justice.”
Dr Sam Richards, Head of Children’s and Youth Work for the URC, added: “Children’s and Youth Work are delighted to be working with Commitment for Life – this is the first of a planned series of resources over the next four years that will visit now of the countries supported by Commitment for Life each year.
“Every year we will be inviting children to Go with Greta to a different country, and young people to #connect2 the experiences of growing up somewhere else in the world. There is a particular focus on the environment, the challenges of daily life and the gifts each country shares with the world. We are excited to be supporting Commitment for LIfe churches in this way, and to be offering all churches in the URC resources to engage children and young people with the URC’s world mission.
“This grew out of the work of Pilots, who for 85 years have been taking children and young people on an ‘overseas voyage’ each year to explore a different country. We are delighted that this resource not only serves Pilots, but also the wider work of the URC and is available to as a free resource for every church.”
