Easter Sunday: A celebration of love

The Revd Cara Heafey, Minister of Marston and Wheatley United Reformed churches in Oxford, offers us this reflection for Easter Sunday.

At Easter we celebrate that there is no darkness that love cannot reach, no tomb that love cannot break open, no depths from which love cannot raise us up.

This is no superficial joy; it is hard won. The suffering of the past is not erased, it is written on the body in scars. The resurrection affirms that all that is broken can be made beautiful, integrated into new wholeness.

Easter Prayer

God of life, we praise and thank you
that the story of our faith didn’t end with the cross.
That even the worst of what humanity inflicts
can be redeemed by your unquenchable love.

Breathe life into our faith.
Resurrect our hope.
Heal what is broken or buried within us.
Raise us up with your grace.
