Connecting with isolated older people – a challenge for churches

Christian befriending charity the Link Visiting Scheme has launched a new resource to help churches reach and support lonely older people.

The Build-A-Link Challenge will take a church from initial discussions about the extent of loneliness in its area, through to a guide to understanding local services for older people, with suggestions about next steps.

Trained volunteers from churches visit isolated older people in their homes, bringing much needed contact, conversation and stimulation.

National project director Jeremy Sharpe said: "We want to give churches the tools to build links with lonely older people to combat growing levels of isolation in this country."
