    Join elders from around the URC exploring what it means to exercise the ministry of eldership today.

    The theme of this year’s elders’ event is “Resourcing our Elders”. The conference will be considering what it is to be an elder drawing on the material recently designed for the United Reformed Church by Eastern Synod Mission Development Officer the Revd Peter Ball and South Western Synod Moderator the Revd Ruth Whitehead.

  • Inter Faith Week

    Faith image

    Inter Faith week will usually begin on Remembrance Sunday, and run until the following Sunday. The additional Sunday is intended to provide the opportunity for other weekend events to take place as well as those linked to Remembrance Sunday. It is a programme of the Inter Faith Network, of which the URC is a member. The aims of this specially designated week are to:

    • strengthen good inter faith relations at all levels in our increasingly diverse society;
    • encourage local faith groups and communities to reach out to each other and build stronger bonds of understanding and cooperation;
    • increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, with a particular focus on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society;
    • increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs and;
    • encourage the development of new partnerships within local communities and by faith communities with statutory and third sector partners.

    Season of Invitation is an annual opportunity encompassing Back to Church Sunday that promotes churches across the UK and overseas to invite people to come with them to church on five “event” Sundays.

    Over the past several years Back to Church Sunday, held annually on one Sunday in September, has brought in many new people to church, yet research revealed that people are much more likely to come to church and keep coming if they’re invited several times.

    Hate Crime Awareness Week recently took place on 8-14th February 2016. One of the Building Bridges Project's main aims is: 'To foster mutual respect, trust, support and kindness between generations, faith and cultures'and therefore, the project felt compleled to get involved:

    "Building Bridges and others involved with the primary schools, churches, uniformed organisations and youth groups within Tonge Moor took part in a poster design competition."
